We have agreement for an Independent Review into the Forestry Sector.

This is a big breakthrough, thanks for all your support.

We have just received a draft of the terms of reference for an Independent Review into the Forestry Sector from the Forest Owners Association.

The CTU has been working with the FOA on these draft terms of reference and it is confident that provided an agreed process is complied with (that for example, you get a say on worker representation on the Review Panel, you get input, the chair is an agreed person and MBIE provide support to it) then it will be a very good chance for us to identify and seek changes to make forestry work safer. It is your bravery and brilliant campaign work that has bought this about and we need to make the most of it. While our preference may have been the Government leading a review – this review opens the door and if done properly is a real opportunity for change.

Please comment on the draft terms of reference even if you think they are OK – we need to hear from you. You can see we have made some comments (in red) of areas we think should be tightened up. Please tell us what you think of them as well.

We only have about 10 days to feedback on these TOR so do it now! Its important that others can read what you think and comment, here’s how you can let us know your thoughts about the process:

• Comment on either this website (you can either fill in the Contact Form below or leave a comment) or our facebook page , or
• You can email Edward Miller on edward.miller@firstunion.org.nz , or
• Call Edward Miller on 09 622 8355 ext 9430 or 0800 TO FIRST (0800 863 477), or
• Print off the draft terms of reference, write your comments on it and post it to us – Private Bag 92904 Onehunga, Auckland 1643 attn. Edward Miller

We want to send you the final terms and panel make up for endorsement and are hoping to get agreement on this!

Please tell everyone you know that works in the bush to have their say – we have got this far – lets do this!
