Serious injuries after forestry accident

Wednesday 18 Sep 2013 2:05p.m.

A forestry worker has suffered serious injuries after a tree rolled onto him near Castle Point in the Wairarapa.

The man, in his late 30s, was flown to Wellington Hospital by the Westpac Rescue Helicopter following the accident around 9:30am.

Life Flight crewman Colin Larsen says the man’s colleagues did a good job treating him and preparing a landing site for the helicopter.

“They were able to supply good GPS coordinates and location information, which made finding the accident site straight forward.”

The other workers were able to administer basic first aid before the rescue helicopter landed a short distance from the man, who was down an embankment.
